Welcome to the Official Blog of Phoenix Aero.

Phoenix Aero, SAE, is the official Aero-Design Student Chapter from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, Gujarat. The team consists of students from all domains of engineering who share a common passion for aviation and aeromodelling.

Phoenix Aero was established in 2019 by Anirudh Manoj of batch 2017-21, who is an aeromodelling enthusiast. His efforts and dedication resulted in an expansion of the community by the junior batch joining him in this journey. They started working and designing the first aircraft of this student chapter, 'Pegasus', which is a trainer aircraft with an endurance of 6.5 minutes! After the first flight of the trainer, they were all exuberant to capture the sky!

The team then decided to take part in the Boeing-IIT National Aeromodelling Competition. They designed and manufactured their competition aircraft, 'AtmosX'. It was a fixed-wing glider with a wingspan of 1.2 meters and an endurance of over 10 minutes.

After the successful first term, the student chapter gained the interest of many juniors who were into aeromodelling and aviation. Under the leadership of Dhanush Binu and Anup Kamath, a batch of students were recruited in the second term of the student chapter. They worked on the research project trying to maximize the payload carrying capabilities by implementing a distinctive design to the fuselage to make it highly aerodynamically efficient. The project was later filed for a design patent.

Apart from the technical projects and research, the team was also devoted to sharing their knowledge of aviation with like-minded students of the institution. The team had conducted a 12-Day Aeromodelling Workshop where the participants got a chance to learn about the basics of aeromodelling from scratch. After each session of the workshop, the participants were given a Group Task to compete against each other.

The third batch of the student chapter was recruited in April 2021 and the team witnessed a further expansion in the community and is currently working to compete in the upcoming SAEISS Aero Design Challenge.

The team is highly motivated and determined to edify the name of their institute in the domain of aeromodelling. This is not the end of the blog, this is the beginning of the chapter.
